False Creek - North shore - after Expo86

When you could still see the mountains

For a couple of years after Expo86 ended the expo lands remained unused. This collection of images remembers that period just before major construction began. A critical perspective is #9 where you can see from one end on the west of what were the expo lands to the other end at the east (look for the silver circle that is now Science World). There were no towers accross the street from Science World then. The first construction that you can see in #9 was away from the water by 100-200 meters leaving the water's edge untouched. Notice also in #9 the famous McBarge which caused such a broohaha in bureaucratic circles.
